Almost all DaimlerChrysler plants are producing 2002 models. The exception is the Saltillo, Mexico, plant, which will build the 2001 Dodge Ram until Thursday, Aug. 2.
In June, General Motors began pre-production of the Cadillac Escalade EXT. Fifteen units were assembled in Silao, Mexico. GM builds three other trucks in Mexico. Its June production figures are: Chevrolet Avalanche, 11,896; Buick Rendezvous, 6,298; and Pontiac Aztek 725. Year-to-date figures are: Avalanche, 19,937; Rendezvous, 16,006; and Aztek, 9,905.
Ford Motor Co. will halt production of the 2001 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable at the Atlanta plant because of slow sales. Upon return on Monday, Aug. 6, the plant will begin assembling the 2002 Taurus and Sable.
The Wayne, Mich. (Ford Focus), and Chicago (Taurus and Sable) plants were closed the week ending July 21 because of slow sales.
