Ford of Europe has made two key appointments to help with model launches.
John Fleming becomes vice president of manufacturing. He replaces Rolf Zimmer-man, who remains chairman of Ford Werke AG, Ford's German sales company. But he adds a new title: vice president of new model launch execution.
The appointments come as Ford prepares for the launch of the redesigned Fiesta supermini, scheduled to start production November 30.
'Flawlessly executed launches are key elements of Ford of Europe's transformation strategy, which encompasses 45 new product launches within five years and represents a launch record in the history of the company,' says David Thursfield, Ford of Europe chief executive.
Ford of Europe spokesman Don Hume adds: 'We've given products such as the Focus and Mondeo a great platform but haven't been able to get deliveries out there.'
Fleming is a Thursfield protege. Fleming had been executive director of stamping in Ford's U.S. manufacturing operations in Dearborn, Michigan. He also was director of global manufacturing engineering.
Ford officials believe Zimmerman's joint launch management and Ford Werke responsibilities will be more manageable than his previous positions.
