Audi's redesigned 2002 A4, which had its North American debut in New York Wednesday, will be the first car from the German manufacturer to offer General Motors' OnStar service.
The service, called Audi telematics by OnStar, will offer customers a variety of safety, security and convenience features, said Audi of America Vice President Len Hunt. The features include automatic notification of air-bag deployment, stolen vehicle tracking and route guidance.
In addition, Audi owners will be able to retrieve personalized Internet-based information like e-mail and news reports, or make hands-free cellular phone calls via a personal calling system.
OnStar uses global positioning satellite technology and a dedicated cellular phone to connect a customer to an OnStar operator.
