DETROIT - James Panaretos, who worked his way up through the General Motors field and marketing organizations, is the Pontiac Grand Am's new brand manager.
He has been the Oldsmobile Alero brand manager since June 2000. He will continue to manage the Alero.
The Grand Am was GM's second-best-selling car in 2000 to the No. 1 Chevrolet Cavalier. But Grand Am's sales slipped 8.5 percent last year to 214,923.
Panaretos will develop advertising, establish prices and try to build the image of the Grand Am.
Panaretos, 45, began his career with GM in 1979 as a district manager for Pontiac. In 1999, he became the regional divisional marketing manager for Pontiac-GMC in the South Central Region.
