North American car and truck reached 3 million last week, 14 days later than in 2000. To emphasize how much is down, output reached 4 million on March 17 last year. This year's total is down 841,974 units, or 20.8 percent, from last year.
So far this year, U.S. car is down 17.9 percent; Canada car is down 27.6 percent; Mexico car is up 16.6 percent; and North America car is down 15.5 percent.
U.S. truck is down 25.3 percent; Canada truck is down 31.9 percent; Mexico truck is down 6.8 percent; and North America truck is down 25.5 percent.
So far this year, U.S. car and truck is down 22.1 percent; Canadian car and truck is down 29.8 percent; and Mexico car and truck is up 8.8 percent.
AutoAlliance was down last week for inventory adjustment. The Flat Rock, Mich., plant produces the Mazda 626 and Mercury Cougar.
General Motors is the only manufacturer with plants down this week. Oklahoma City, which produces the Chevrolet Malibu, is down for the second week in a row and the fifth week this year. Orion Township, Mich. (Buick LeSabre and Park Avenue, Oldsmobile Aurora and Pontiac Bonneville), is down for the fifth week this year.
