Delphi plans to acquire Eaton division
DETROIT - Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. of Troy, Mich., plans to purchase Eaton Corp.'s vehicle switch and electronics division for $300 million.
The transaction is expected to be complete at the end of March.
Eaton's automotive switch business had 2000 sales of about $320 million.
Brose, Shiroki to form JV
NAGOYA, Japan - Brose Group of Coburg, Germany, and Shiroki Corp. Toyokawa of Japan have agreed to work on developing window regulators, door systems and seat adjusters.
These products will be produced in Japan and Europe.
The companies will establish a 50-50 joint venture in Japan and may set up joint ventures in Europe and other markets.
Hayes Lemmerz gets military work
DETROIT - Hayes Lemmerz International Inc.'s commercial highway division won a contract to produce military wheels for the Canadian Army's medium-duty truck, the Medium Logistics Vehicle Wheeled.
The contract is estimated to be worth $5 million. Hayes Lemmerz of Northville, Mich., will produce the wheels at its Akron, Ohio, plant.
Ashimori, Delphi partner
DETROIT - Airbag and seat belt supplier Ashimori Industry Co. Ltd. of Osaka, Japan, and Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. of Troy, Mich., have agreed to expand the companies' airbag business.
The companies formed a seat belt manufacturing joint venture five months ago.
Cummins, Westport join on engines
COLUMBUS, Ind. - Cummins Inc. of Columbus, Ind., and Westport Innovations Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia, formed a 50-50 joint venture to develop and market low-emissions natural gas engines.
The venture, headquartered in Vancouver, will have three representatives from each company on its board of directors.
Westport is prepared to invest up to $50 million in the joint venture during its first three years.
Shiloh Industries opens center
DETROIT - Shiloh Industries Inc. of Cleveland opened a 26,400-square-foot sales and technical center in Auburn Hills, Mich.
The center has about 40 employees.
Shiloh's products include blanks, stamped components and assemblies.
