The head of Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. and a Toyota production leader will be among the featured speakers at the Automotive News New American Manufacturing Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
John Lampe, a longtime Bridgestone/Firestone employee, was thrust into the CEO slot last year in the wake of the Firestone tire recall. He must mend that damage, restore confidence in the brand and try to get Firestone back on a track that had seen it spend more than $2 billion in U.S. manufacuturing in the past 20 years.
Ken Kraefle is general manager of quality control and quality engineering at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc. He oversees the heart of Toyota's expanding North American manufacturing network, in Georgetown, Ky.
The plant is overhauling its production system to make a lean system even more flexible.
Lampe and Kraefle will speak on Tuesday, April 10.
Other speakers include Monday evening keynoter Don Walker, CEO of Magna Interiors Inc., and Tuesday evening keynoter Dennis Pawley, the former manufacturing chief for Chrysler Corp. who also led Mazda's U.S. manufacturing operations in the 1980s.
The April 9-11 conference will be co-sponsored by the Deloitte Consulting unit of Deloitte & Touche LLP, the state of Tennessee and the University of Tennessee.
