DETROIT - Jerry Bielfield, a longtime Ford dealer, died Feb. 18. He was 88. Bielfield started Bielfield Ford with his brother, Bud, in 1949 in Detroit. He sold the business in 1988, and the dealership operates as Jorgensen Ford.
NEW BERN, N.C. - Dex Howard, an auto dealer for almost 40 years, died Feb. 13. He was 77. Howard began his career in 1949 as a salesman at Downtown Ford in Los Angeles, eventually rising to general manager. He moved to Greensboro, N.C., and in 1956 joined Greensboro Ford, which he bought five years later. Over the next 25 years, Howard expanded the business, selling Ford, Isuzu and Peugeot vehicles in Durham, N.C., and Pontiac, BMW, American Motors, Jeep and International Truck models in Knoxville, Tenn.
