Ford has hired French football star Zinedine Zidane to boost its image among the country's car buyers. Ford reportedly offered Zidane more than $1.8 million to star in a new series of advertisements.
Zidane, a child of poor Algerian immigrants, is one of France's most popular sports figures. But Zidane's deal with Ford has caused a controversy in Italy, where he plays for Juventus of Turin. Juventus is owned by Fiat's Agnelli family.
