Ford of Europe Chairman Nick Scheele has added the title of chief executive to the responsibilities of President David Thursfield.
With the chief executive title, Thursfield adds responsibility for finance, marketing sales and service to his portfolio of manufacturing, purchasing, product development and quality.
The functions of human resources, legal, governmental affairs, and communications and public affairs will be under Scheele and Thursfield.
'Our strategy of intense product investment and cost reduction is hitting its stride, and since my external responsibilities as chairman are expanding, the time is right to concentrate the execution of our strategy in the hands of a chief executive,' Scheele said in a statement.
Joe Greenwell, Ford of Europe public relations director, said the move will free Scheele to carry out the more strategic aspects of his job as chairman, including monthly trips to Dearborn, Michigan, for senior management meetings.
