SOUTHFIELD, USA - Federal-Mogul Srl, the Italian subsidiary of US supplier Federal-Mogul Corp., has formed a joint venture with Nagares SA of Spain to produce timer/glow plug systems.
The alliance will combine new-technology glow plugs produced by Federal-Mogul with electronic multiplexing timers made by Nagares. The joint venture will allow glow plugs and timers to be developed and sold together as systems.
Nagares produces diesel starting-aid electronics. Federal-Mogul makes spark plugs, glow plugs and other ignition products.
VAW Renault deal
BUDAPEST - Hungarian aluminum cylinder manufacturer VAW Aluminiumtechnika Kft will produce cylinder heads for Renault diesel engines.
VAW will begin supplying Renault from 2002. It will also invest more than $7 million on new production lines at its plant in Gyor, western Hungary. VAW will supply 200,000 cylinder heads per year for Renault's 1.3-liter diesel engines.
VAW's other customers include Opel, BMW and Audi.
GKN PresMet buy
LONDON - GKN Sinter Metals, a subsidiary of GKN plc of the UK, bought PresMet Corp., a powder metal parts supplier based in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA.
PresMet employs about 350 and makes components for steering columns, engines and transmissions. PresMet's main customers are Visteon, DaimlerChrysler and TI Group.
Dana UK sell-off
TOLEDO, Ohio - Dana Corp. of Toledo, Ohio, plans to sell its forging operations in Kirkstall, England.
Dana's Kirkstall facility supplies forgings for parts used in off-highway axles and equipment used in the oil and gas industry. The forging business, with 2000 revenue of about E8.5 million, has 200 employees. Dana said it considers forging a noncore technology.
BRANTFORD, Ontario, Canada - Wescast Industries Inc. won two contracts to supply Jaguar with exhaust manifolds.Terms were not disclosed.
This month, the Canadian supplier will begin producing machined iron exhaust manifolds for Jaguar's new X-type at its Wingham, Ontario, plant.
Wescast will also supply cast and machined stainless steel manifolds for all Jaguar V-8s starting in January 2002. These engines will be used in the Jaguar XJ8, XK8 and S-type.
Exide D/C contract
PRINCETON, USA - Exide Technologies won a contract to supply DaimlerChrysler with Oribital Select batteries.
The batteries will be used in DaimlerChrysler's new diesel-powered Chrysler Voyager minivan that will be manufactured and sold in Europe. Exide of Princeton, New Jersey, USA, will make the batteries at its plant in Malpica, Spain.
