BMW Manufacturing Corp. produced its 250,000th Z3 roadster at its plant in Spartanburg, S.C., on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The first was produced on Sept. 20, 1995, and the 100,000th was built on Oct. 28, 1997.
Eight assembly plants are down this week, the most of any week in February. DaimlerChrysler will idle the Jeep Wrangler portion of the plant in Toledo, Ohio. Production of the Jeep Cherokee will not be affected.
Two Ford Motor Co. plants are down this week: Chicago (Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable) and Michigan Truck (Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator) in Wayne, Mich.
General Motors will idle five plants. The car plants are: Fairfax, Kan. (Oldsmobile Intrigue and Pontiac Grand Prix); Lansing, Mich. (C plant, Oldsmobile Alero and Pontiac Grand Am), and Oklahoma City (Chevrolet Malibu). The truck plants are: Janesville, Wis. (No. 2 plant, Chevrolet and GMC medium-duty trucks) and Wentzville, Mo. (Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana).
