Toyota's RSC concept car takes styling and performance cues from the company's rally cars.
The RSC is built on a RAV4 platform. It is aimed at young male buyers who want a car they can take off-road and drive hard, said Kevin Hunter, vice president of design at Toyota's Calty design studio in Torrance, Calif.
The RSC has an angular, machined look and a sparse interior. It's a 2+2 with a rear that can be configured into dual cargo compartments. The all-wheel-drive vehicle rides on 19-inch wheels and has a wheelbase of 98 inches.
True to its rally car roots, the RSC's shifter juts out of the dash. Toyota officials said the car is part of the Genesis program meant to appeal to young buyers. But they didn't sound hopeful the RSC would ever be built. Said Hunter: 'Right now it's a pure concept.'
