VW sells two cars for charity
Volkswagen Credit and Audi Financial Services auctioned two certified used cars at the companies' booth Sunday and raised more than $20,000 for charities.
The two captive finance companies agreed to donate money the vehicles' sales brought above Black Book value to the charity of the buyers' choice.
The financial companies also said they would match the overage amount up to $5,000, said Paul Lazor, VW remarketing specialist.
The vehicles were a 1999 Jetta GL purchased for $22,300 and a 1998 Audi A6 Quattro purchased for $26,500.
The Black Book values are $12,350 for the Jetta and $23,300 for the Audi.
Donaldson's VW of Sayville, N.Y., purchased the Jetta; Mr. Bobby's Imports of Gulfport, Miss., took home the Audi.
In-bound vehicle transportation, vehicle preparation and auctioneer services were donated by Manheim Auctions.
Survey: Web spurs sales
Dealers say more sales are coming from the Internet.
Seven percent of dealers responding to EDS' 2000 Information Technology & Computer System Survey reported that at least 31 percent or more of their sales leads were Internet-generated; 4 percent of respondents reported that 21 percent to 30 percent of their leads came via the Internet.
This is the first time in the three years the survey has been done that dealers say a significant portion of their sales activity is generated via the Web, said Matt Parsons, EDS vice president of marketing.
