General Motors wants to form at least 50 local dealer advertising groups in 2001.
The company also said at the GM make meeting Sunday that fresh products in the coming years will boost sales. For example, GMC will get a Sierra with four-wheel steering in 2002, the dealers were told. A crossover vehicle, combining sport-utility and sedan attributes, is coming for Chevrolet, the company said.
A Buick dealer said GM has starved Buick of fresh products. A GMC dealer said, "We were supposed to be the Cadillac of trucks, and then you gave our truck to Cadillac," referring to the Escalade.
With Oldsmobile gone in the next few years, GM said it is rethinking its dealer dualing patterns. The company is looking at how the brands of its international partners, such as Isuzu and Suzuki, should be dualed with GM dealers.
