MEXICO CITY
Ford Motor Co. is strengthening its entry-level vehicle lineup in Mexico to attract the growing middle class.
Newly elected President Vicente Fox wants to create a pluralistic democracy with a strong domestic growth, says Kathleen Ligocki, CEO of Ford of Mexico. 'Mexico was hot last year. Consumer confidence was high. We see that continuing this year, Ligocki said in a speech to the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit. 'The dream for the Mexican auto industry of a million units in the domestic market is almost reality.'
Sales of new vehicles in Mexico rose 28 percent last year to 887,000 units.
