A Focus TV commercial that Ford Motor Co. has been airing nationally on cable stations since Dec. 1 now is being targeted at young minorities. The 30-second spot features a black Focus sedan that takes on a male persona and a red Focus hatchback with a female persona. The two converse with their headlights in a Morse-like code. Words flash across the bottom of the screen when the black car starts flirting, 'Hey, cute body.' To reach a more diverse audience, Ford started running the commercial Friday, Jan. 5, on the Warner Bros. and United Paramount networks during programs such as 'Moesha,' 'The Jamie Foxx Show' and 'The Parkers.' The spot was created by UniWorld Group Inc. in New York, which has handled black advertising for Ford since 1994.
