Chevrolet has some big rewards awaiting outstanding female high school athletes. The division has teamed up with world figure-skating champion Michelle Kwan in a multiyear program that will provide $5,000 college scholarships to 10 high school seniors each year. The first scholarships will be awarded in May.
'Chevrolet is proud to work with Michelle on this scholarship program, which builds on our longstanding commitment to education and heritage of supporting aspiring athletes,' says Kurt Ritter, Chevrolet's general marketing manager.
The program is called R.E.W.A.R.D.S., which stands for recognizing excellence of women in academics and rewarding dynamic student athletes. To qualify, applicants must participate in athletics and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. They also will be judged on leadership abilities, financial need and the quality of a personal essay.
The program will be featured on the division's Web site - www.chevrolet.com/rewards. Advertising in various teen magazines began last month and will run throughout the program.
