PC Carbook gets upgrade
PORTLAND, Ore. - Chrome Data Corp. - a business-to-business provider of automotive data, configuration technology and software - has completed an upgrade of PC Carbook, its desktop vehicle research, configuration and pricing tool.
PC Carbook users will be able to view and calculate pricing and technical specification information for medium-duty trucks in real time. The upgrade also helps fleet managers create bids for government contracts by supporting bid assistance price adjustments.
The new user interface has been enhanced to display special equipment options such as special-purpose wiring and specialized paint schemes. The upgrade also provides more flexibility with measurements displayed in English or metric systems.
Users will receive the upgrade automatically this month at no additional charge.
VW picks e-catalog software
SAN DIEGO - Volkswagen AG has selected Peregrine Systems Inc. to provide electronic catalog software, content management services and search-engine capabilities for VW's global e-procurement system.
Peregrine will help VW post catalogs, assemble data from its trading community and then manage that data for posting in its global e-procurement system.

BOSTON - AMR Research Inc. has found that companies find product search capability and order status and tracking capability the most desired functions of a trade exchange.
Also ranking high in AMR's survey on trade exchanges are product catalogs, vendor search capability and supplier and buyer integration. The least desired functions are auctions, collaborative product design, job and industry specific news, general news service and negotiation.
Site for repair shops
ST. LOUIS - Enterprise Rent-A-Car has developed a Web site to help repair shops reduce the number of calls they receive from rental car companies checking on the status of cars for insurance companies.
The site, www.enterprise.com/arms_auto, is an extension of Enterprise's Automated Rental Management Systems communication system, which was created in 1996 in conjunction with insurance companies to better manage claims.
