In an attempt to create some visibility for the slow-selling Pontiac Aztek near its home, General Motors will put 2,300 in the hands of its Detroit-area executives in the coming weeks.
The order: Drive them everywhere. Somewhat like the Stealth bomber, the distinctively styled Aztek seems to leave no impression on shoppers.
But to see none on the roads in Detroit, where GM employees and their families make up a huge chunk of the retail market, has been especially painful to GM leaders.
'It's been a huge embarrassment for us,' one GM manager said. 'I mean, the only place you see them is on dealer lots - unsold.'
