DETROIT - Cheryl Ollila was named director of labor relations for General Motors' North American Labor Relations unit. She was assistant director of labor relations for the Wage Administration and Divisional Labor Relations unit.
In her new position, effective Friday, Dec. 1, Ollila will be responsible for strategic planning, sourcing, job security, hourly employment and business plan development. She will report to Dean Munger, executive director of labor relations
Ollila began her career in 1977 with Fisher Body Division. Since then she has held various managerial positions in the Chevrolet-Pontiac-GM of Canada and the Mid-sized Car organizations. She joined the corporate labor relations staff in 1996.
Ollila replaces Diana Tremblay, who becomes director of manufacturing at GM's Luton, England, plant. Tremblay also was elected to the Vauxhall Motors board of directors. She joined GM in 1977.
