Russian automaker JSC GAZ plans to sell Volga passenger cars and commercial trucks in South America - by way of the United States.
The company will ship the vehicles from Estonia, to Baltimore, Maryland. When orders are received, vehicles will be shipped to South American distributors. East Motors Inc., a New Jersey joint venture between GAZ and two U.S. companies, says it will handle parts and service out of the United States.
The venture plans to push the Sobol minivan and GAZelle, which can be configured as a van, minibus or light truck. Vehicles are expected to arrive in Baltimore this month. The venture predicts sales of 25,000 vehicles per year.
