DETROIT - The 2001 Pontiac Aztek, a four-door hatchback with minivan characteristics, will be priced at $21,995 when it goes on sale this summer. The upscale version, the Aztek GT, will be $24,995. Both prices include the $550 destination charge. The prices are for two-wheel-drive models; awd prices will be announced later.
Standard equipment on the base Aztek includes side airbags, antilock brakes, air conditioning and power windows and door locks.
Elsewhere, the Chrysler group made it unanimous for the domestics by raising the freight charge $25 on all 2000 models.
Ford Motor Co. started the current freight increase with a $25 across-the-board hike March 6. General Motors added $10 to $45 on most models March 10. Chrysler group jumped in March 14.
