Oxford buys Italian firm
DETROIT - Oxford Auto-motive Inc. has agreed to acquire Gessaroli Group of Turin, Italy. Gessaroli supplies locking mechanisms, latches, stampings, fine blanking and weld assemblies. The acquisition will allow Oxford to expand its production of modular closure systems. Oxford, of Troy, Mich., supplies engineered metal components, assemblies and modules.
DELPHI FORMS PARTNERSHIP
DETROIT - Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. has formed a partnership with Griffin Thermal Products. Delphi's Harrison Thermal division will supply Griffin Radiator with heat exchangers for racing uses. Griffin Radiator also will use Del-phi's product and design expertise in other capacities. Griffin Radiator, of Pied-mont, S.C., designs and manufactures custom-made radiators for racing and the aftermarket. Delphi, of Troy, Mich., is an automotive components and systems supplier.
CONTINENTAL GETS DEAL
HANOVER, Germany - Continental AG will begin producing its 'smart tires' in 2002 for an undisclosed customer, Chairman Stephan Kessel said. The German tire maker unveiled its 'Intelligent Tire Systems' last year but at that time had no contract to produce them commercially. Kessel said the system will appear on a 2003 production model. The system uses sensors in the tires' side walls to monitor conditions.
UAW-AMERICAN AXLE PACT
DETROIT - UAW members at American Axle & Manu-facturing Inc. of Detroit have ratified a four-year national agreement. It provides for a 3 percent wage increase each year. The contract also calls for a $1,350 up-front bonus. The deal covers about 7,500 UAW members at plants in Detroit; Hamtramck and Three Ri-vers, Mich.; and Buffalo, Tonawanda and Cheektowaga, N.Y.
