LOS ANGELES - Lexus Division is creating a special line of vehicles aimed at owners who want a higher level of pampering.
Lexus 'Platinum Series' editions will be offered on last-generation LS 400s, and on the GS 400, GS 300 and ES 300 lines. Those vehicles will come with special exterior colors, different wheels and badges, and a more opulent interior that includes maple trim and upgraded leather seats.
Items that normally are options, such as a power moonroof and six-disc CD changer, are standard.
Lexus customers who purchase one of the special-series vehicles also will receive an American Express Platinum card for free for two years, a $600 value. The card gives members such perks as upgrades at many hotels, airport club memberships, 24-hour emergency and concierge service, and complimentary companion airline tickets with the purchase of a first-class seat.
Lexus demographics show that 65 percent of Lexus customers already have some form of American Express card. This is the first co-branding tie-in for American Express with a car company.
