LONDON - Senior Seat executives are understood to have briefed Bates UK about a new print and television campaign to relaunch the brand here. The advertising is expected to open with a promotion for the new Seat Leon.
The campaign is not expected to dwell on Seat's VW parentage for fear of cannibalizing VW sales. 'It's a tricky problem because people in the UK think of Seat as a Spanish Fiat,' said an advertising industry source. 'But the brand doesn't want to present itself as a cheap VW.'
Publicis awarded Rover account
MADRID - Publicis has won the A22 million advertising business for BMW-owned Rover in Spain. The appointment follows a four-way pitch including incumbent of two years Lowe Lintas & Partners, FCA BMZ and SCPF.
Publicis' first task will be a multi-media campaign for the Rover 75 in April.
Family role for Peugeot in UK
LONDON - Peugeot is putting a member of the French Peugeot family in charge of its UK advertising and moving Kel Walker, its advertising chief, to a new post. Xavier Peugeot will become UK director of advertising and sales promotion, replacing Walker who has been assigned a regional director's role in the English midlands.
Peugeot, who has held a number of senior positions in France, will take up the new job in April. He will report to UK marketing director Rod Philpott.
Land Rover close to agency decision
LANHAM, USA - Land Rover North America has narrowed its review from five to three agencies. Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Miami; GSD&M, Austin, Texas; and Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York, will go to the sport-utility marketer's headquarters in Lanham, Maryland, for the same presentation given to new hirees.
A final decision for the $30 million creative account is expected by the end of March. Grace & Rothschild, New York, previously handled.
