Six automotive Internet buying services have separately hooked up with Edmunds.com, forming a consumer automotive portal.
The six services - Autobytel. com, AutoNationDirect.com, car Order.com, DriveOff.com, Green light.com and GMBuyPower - have individual contracts that run for 90 days with an option to renew every 30 days.
'We have learned with the Internet that things can change rapidly,' said Jeremy Anwyl, CEO of Edmunds.com
The arrangement gives the buying and referral services access to more customers and gives Edmunds.com added content to attract more visitors, said Anwyl.
The services also will pay Edmunds.com $20 for a referral, and about $300 when a referral leads to a sale or lease. Consumers already use Edmunds.com for invoice prices, incentive and rebate data plus product reviews.
In January, the site had 1.4 million visitors that stayed an average of 15 minutes per visit, he said. Edmunds.com wants 2.5 million monthly visitors by year end. Anwyl said Edmunds.com is negotiating with several other online buying and referral services.
Edmunds.com also plans to offer links to other automotive services such as insurance.
Said Anwyl: 'The key here is we are not trying to drive traffic anywhere particular, but we are presenting options.
