DETROIT - TRW Inc. is forming a joint venture with Linamar Corp. to supply fully assembled cylinder head modules to engine builders.
Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. But it will be a 50/50 joint venture in Guelph, Ontario.
'Our plan is to become the leader in supplying fully assembled cylinder heads,' TRW President David Cote said.
Today, engine builders typically build the heads in-house or outsource the work, said Scott Burkhart, director of customer development for Lina-mar.
Linamar, of Guelph, makes components, assemblies and castings mainly for the automotive industry, including for engine systems.
The market for assembled cylinder heads is in its infancy, Burkhart said. But the potential exceeds $1 billion in annual sales, he said.
A letter of intent was signed Tuesday, March 7. The agreement is expected to be completed by the end of March.
