Four General Motors plants are down this week for inventory adjustments. They are Fairfax, Va. (Oldsmobile Intrigue, Pontiac Grand Prix); Ste. Therese, Quebec (Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird); Spring Hill, Tenn. (Saturn S series); and Wilmington, Del. (Saturn L series).
It is the first time in more than five years that the Fairfax plant has been down for anything other than strikes or changeovers. It is the third time this year that the Wilmington plant has been idle; the closures total four weeks. It is the second time this year that Spring Hill and Ste. Therese have been idle.
Because of high inventories in the field, Ford Motor Co. will produce no Mercury Villagers or Nissan Quests at Avon Lake, Ohio, this week.
