Saturn Corp. said it will launch a new Web-based dealer management system in partnership with several computer and software firms.
Saturn, a General Motors unit, said it should take more than two years to put what it calls the Next Generation Saturn Retail System into the field. Saturn will invest about $280 million in the system over seven years.
Saturn said the cost of the new system to dealers will be comparable to what they are paying for the current dealer management system.
Key partners in the venture include Reynolds and Reynolds Co., SiebelSystems Inc. and Computer Sciences Corp.
With the new Web-based system, Saturn dealers will be able to check vehicle inventory anywhere in the company. Saturn customers will be able to connect with dealer computer systems to schedule service appointments.
