PLANO, Texas - Daryl Baughman, Porsche Cars North America Inc.'s regional manager here, died Jan. 11. He was 44. He was hired in 1986 as a field parts specialist, then rose to field service manager and district manager before becoming regional manager. Before joining Porsche, he worked at General Motors and British Leyland.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Joseph McGuire, 75, an international automotive sales trainer and motivator, died Jan. 1. McGuire, a sales trainer for almost 30 years, worked at several companies before forming automotive consulting training firm Bettco Inc. in 1980 with his wife, Betty. He retired in 1995.
MONTGOMERY, W.Va. - Giles Musick, 72, an auto dealer for 35 years, died Nov. 17. Musick, who started his automotive career in 1964, was active in the operation of Brown Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Buick-GMC here. His sons, Mark, Ronnie and Brent, continue at the dealership.
DETROIT - Charles Phaneuf, a designer of the 1964 Ford Mustang, died in Royal Oak, Mich., Jan. 7. He was 73. During his 37-year career at Ford Motor Co., Phaneuf contributed to the design of the Continental Mark II and the Lincoln emblem along with the Mustang before retiring in 1989.
Paul Ricart Sr.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Paul Ricart Sr., founder of Ricart Automotive and Ricart Ford here, died Dec. 6. He was 82. Ricart began Ricart Ford in 1953 and was joined in the dealership by his sons, Fred and Rhett, in the late 1970s.
Shirley Ann Yoakam Schluter
MANSFIELD, Ohio - Shirley Ann Yoakam Schluter, co-owner of three Ohio dealerships, died Oct. 14. She was 65. Along with her husband, Ted Schluter, she owned Whitey's Auto Mall here, and Whitey's Ford-Mercury and Rocket Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Shelby, Ohio.
VERNAL, Utah - Don Showalter, president of Showalter Ford here, died Dec. 30. He was 86. From the 1930s until he retired in 1995, Showalter was active in the Utah dealer association and the National Automobile Dealers Association. He also held leadership positions on the Ford Dealer Council and in the Dealer Advertising Association. He won a Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award in 1975.
CHIHUAHUA, CHIH, Mexico - Fuad Touche, founder and president of Touche Motors SA de CV in Juarez, Mexico, since 1975, died Jan. 4. He was 84. Along with his responsibilities at Touche Motors, Touche was director general of Automotriz Touche SA de CV, in Chihuahua, which was founded in 1954 by his father, Jose, and brother, Emilio.
