Car and truck manufacturers plan to produce 4,567,300 vehicles in North America during the first quarter of 2000, an increase of 11.0 percent over the first quarter of 1999. Car production for the first three months of this year is estimated to be 2,135,452, up 4.2 percent over 1999, and truck production is estimated at 2,431,848, up 17.7 percent.
North American car and truck production reached 1 million units on Friday, Jan. 21, five days earlier than 1999, despite several plants being down one or two weeks this month.
For this year to date, U.S. car and truck production is up 16.4 percent; Canadian car and truck production is up 9.0 percent; and Mexico car and truck production is down 1.9 percent. Overall North American car and truck production is up 13.3 percent.
