The Mercedes-Benz Vision SLA, a concept based on DaimlerChrysler's A-class platform, was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show last week in Detroit. Company officials said the was car was only a design exercise, but one official acknowledged privately that car could in fact be built, either at the Mercedes A-class factory in Brazil or by an outside contractor, such as Germany's Wilhelm Karmann GmbH. The Vision SLA would be priced at about $22,500, between DaimlerChrysler's Smart roadster and the Mercedes-Benz SLK roadster, the source said. The SLA is 12 inches shorter than the Audi TT Coupe.
