WASHINGTON - Saturn Corp. is recalling more than a quarter-million S-series sedans, coupes and wagons to repair two defects.
About 265,000 1999-2000 cars are being recalled because bolts that secure seat belt guides to the B-pillar may be loose and could fall out.
Another 7,500 2000 cars are being recalled so that dealers can replace the center console armrest latch.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the latch does not comply with federal standards for impact during a crash. The agency said occupants could be hurt by the armrest or by console contents if the latch fails in a crash.
NHTSA, in its monthly compilation of manufacturer safety recalls, also said American Honda Motor Co. is asking owners of about 101,000 1998-99 Honda CR-V sport-utilities to return them for a repair.
Dealers will install a protective sleeve over an improperly routed wiring harness to keep it from coming in contact with the brake light switch and blowing a fuse.
The agency said the problem can cause a malfunction of wipers, headlights, turn signals, hazard warning lights, taillights, the battery charging system and antilock brakes.
