North American car and light-truck production in 1999 passed 17 million on Tuesday, Dec. 14. Year-to-date production of 17,223,392 is up 7.4 percent from the 1998 full-year total.
New-car and light-truck production in North America for the week that ended Dec. 11 was 399,252, the highest weekly total in history.
DaimlerChrysler's Sterling Heights, Mich., plant will be closed this week for modifications. The plant produces the Chrysler Cirrus, Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze.
General Motors' Lordstown, Ohio, plant also will be down this week for plant modifications. The plant produces the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire.
