DETROIT - Albert Kovach has been appointed president and COO of Budd Co., effective Jan. 1. He will replace David Williams, who has been appointed vice chairman of the board. Williams, who joined Budd in 1976 as vice president of sales and marketing, became president and COO in 1986.
Kovach, who has been with Budd for 39 years, is now corporate vice president and president of Budd Stamping and Frame Division. He will be replaced by Tony Haag, now director of corporate development.
Replacing Haag is Marion Helmes, who is senior project manager in the mergers and acquisitions department of Thyssen Krupp AG in Dusseldorf, Germany. Thyssen Krupp is Budd's parent company.
Budd also announced that Robert Wangbichler will retire as vice president for employee relations at year end. He has been with Budd for 40 years and will be replaced by William Kroger Jr., now director of labor relations.
Budd, in Troy, Mich., supplies doors, fenders, roofs, hoods, deck lids, chassis frames and other components.
