TURIN, Italy - This has been a transitional year for Carrozzeria Bertone.
Bertone is starting production of the BMW C1 and the Opel Astra coupe at the same time it is cutting output of the aging Fiat Punto cabriolet.
Bertone's revenue is expected to total about $163 million this year, similar to 1998 figures. Next year, however, the company will begin its turnaround drive.
Bertone plans to produce about 30,000 Astra Coupes, plus 5,000 Astra cabriolets later in the year. It also will build 10,000 BMW C1s and 6,000 Punto cabriolets.
Revenue is expected to exceed $435 million.
