LOS ANGELES - Hyundai Motor America heard presentations last week from four ad agencies vying for its first Asian advertising and marketing account. The account will include Chinese and Korean targets. The contenders are Asian American Advertising, EDN, M-Advertising and SA&A. All are in the Los Angeles area. Asian American Advertising handled Hyundai's pilot advertising program this year to Chinese immigrants in California.
Separately, Hyundai started a new owner loyalty program this month. The company is mailing letters and brochures to new buyers after Nov. 1. The materials will discuss the product benefits and urge new owners to go to dealerships for parts and service.
DETROIT - Oldsmobile is giving away six Intrigue sedans as sponsor of an Internet contest on E*Trade Group Inc. in Menlo Park, Calif. The online stock trading company is offering $1 million to the person who most closely guesses the closing price of the Dow Jones industrial average on Dec. 31. Entrants over age 18 can participate at www.emillionmania.com. Karen Francis, general manager of Oldsmobile, said the partnership with E*Trade is a good way to reach the sedan's target, because younger prospects are interested in personal investments and online trading.

MONTVALE, N.J. - Ken Anders was promoted to vice president of marketing at Mercedes-Benz USA. He had been general manager of product management. He succeeds Joe Eberhardt, promoted in September to CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK, which is to be renamed DaimlerChrysler UK on Jan. 1.
GM SPONSORS TOUR
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - General Motors' Western region is sponsoring a six-city concert tour in California and Arizona of Latino star Alejandro Fernandez. The deal is the GM region's first Hispanic initiative. GM vehicles are on display with bilingual signs and product specialists. The region also is trying to gather prospect names by asking them to answer questions about the displayed vehicles.
