Truckmakers had another strong month in September, with total U.S. sales of 44,280 medium and heavy-duty vehicles, up 22.0 percent from September of last year.
In Class 8, truck builders sold 22,421 vehicles in September, up 22.2 percent over the year-ago month. Through the first three quarters of this year, Class 8 sales were up 27.6 percent. All Class 8 truckmakers except Sterling showed gains.
In Class 7, September sales totaled 10,512, up 15.5 percent over last year. For nine months, Class 7 sales were up 20.1 percent.
Sales of all trucks, including light-duty models, totaled 726,314 in September, up 15.3 percent from September 1998. For nine months, sales of all trucks totaled 6,579,632, up 12.9 percent.
