DaimlerChrysler will build the 2-millionth Jeep Grand Cherokee on Thursday, Oct. 28, in Detroit.
General Motors produced its last GMC Suburban on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Janesville, Wis., plant. The plant is down for model changeover for the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon. When production resumes in late November, Janesville also will build the GMC Yukon XL, the replacement for the GMC Suburban.
Ford Motor Co. built its 3-millionth Ford Division vehicle of the year on Friday, Oct. 22. That was 10 days earlier than in 1998.
U.S. truck production reached 6 million on Wednesday, Oct. 20, which was 36 days earlier than last year. U.S. truck production is up 17 percent.
North American car and truck production reached 14 million on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Production is up 10.6 percent over 1998.
