Volvo Cars of North America Inc. hopes its small sedan and wagon will attract customers who are a lot like current Volvo owners. They will just be younger (30 vs. 46) and less affluent (average household income of $75,000, down from $125,000). And most will be single, while 90 percent of today's owners are married and have children.
The S40 and V40 are offered only with automatic transmission. The four-cylinder, 1.9-liter light-pressure turbo hits 160 hp at 5,100 rpm.
