General Motors says no innovation is too creative these days, as demonstrated by Saturn's concept vehicle, the CV1. The all-wheel-drive sport-utility features rear doors that can slide forward and backward, folding in the middle like closet doors. The CV1 is powered by the 2.2-liter, four-cylinder engine from the Saturn LS, mated to GM's prototype continuously variable transmission. The CV1 will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January. Half of GM's new cars over the next few years will have some kind of unusual innovation, said GM chief designer Wayne Cherry. He presided over a media preview last week of nine concept cars GM will reveal at international auto shows next year. For a complete look at the lineup, see Page 44.
