U.S. car and truck production reached 10 million on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Year-to-date production is up 10.1 percent over last year's 9,174,790.
September production of cars and trucks in North America rose 4.7 percent over last year, but it fell 5.1 percent below August.
Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America Inc. built a record 3,878 cars the week that ended Oct. 2. Its previous high was 3,784 in the week that ended Sept. 19, 1998. The plant in Normal, Ill. produces the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Galant, the Dodge Avenger and the Chrysler Sebring coupe.
DaimlerChrysler built 12,157 cars in the United States the week that ended Oct. 2, its highest total since the week that ended June 6, 1998, when 12,818 cars were produced.
