A Miami lawyer has filed suit against Ford Motor Co. on behalf of owners of 1999 SVT Mustang Cobras. The 1999 Cobra has been plagued by power deficiency problems. Ford advertised that the car produced 320 hp, but Ford acknowledged that it doesn't.
In a complaint filed with the 11th Circuit Court in Dade County, Fla., attorney Scott McKay charged that Ford used illegal methods to get buyers into the Cobra. The suit seeks compensation for them.
Ford has said the horsepower deficiency results from flashing, which is excess aluminum in the car's intake manifold. Ford has recalled all 5,300 Cobras sold and will repair them at no charge. Ford spokesman Jim Cain said Ford also will provide free loaners during repairs and will return the Cobras washed and with a full tank of gasoline.
