AutoNation Inc. has unveiled a licensing program that lets dealerships outside its network use its proprietary Compass Internet lead-generation and follow-up system.
The company signed its first six licensees and appointed two of its own dealers to promote the licensing program to dealers in 27 cities through November.
The program should broaden AutoNation's geographic coverage and boost online inventory on its Web site, Autonationdirect.com. Inventory for all 400 of AutoNation's franchises will be posted in October.
Under the two-year renewable contract, licensees receive an exclusive territory and can post new- and used-vehicle inventory in real time online. The licensees will field leads from the AutoNation Web site as well as leads from other referral services. Licensees also benefit from national advertising for Autonationdirect.com. Fees were not disclosed.
The licensees are: Billy F.B. Wong of DCH USA in New York; John Bergstrom of the Bergstrom Group in Neenah, Wis.; Ed Snyder of Checkered Flag Motor Car Co. in Virginia Beach, Va.; Don Flow of Flow Motors Inc. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Larry Denney and Tom Carpenter of Nissan North in Worthington, Ohio; and Jeff Wolfe of Wolfe Automotive Group in Kansas City, Mo.
