Cadillac has decided the truck business is here to stay. After ignoring it for years, Cadillac climbed aboard with a version of GMC's Yukon Denali sport-utility in September 1998. Its Escalade arrived 18 months after Lincoln's Navigator and a year after Mercedes-Benz's ML320.
Now, Cadillac is preparing to follow Lincoln's Blackwood into the realm of the hybrid pickup/SUV. This time, Cadillac will trail Lincoln by six months or less. And the unnamed Cadillac will have a novel twist - a door from the cab to the cargo box.
Somnolent General Motors moves slowly. But it can be a force to be reckoned with when it decides the parade is worth joining.
