The Smart roadster study will be the focus of attention on the Micro Compact Car stand at this month's Frankfurt auto show.
But MCC also plans to unveil two other models there - the Smart cdi and Smart City-Cabrio.
The Smart cdi is powered by an 800cc turbodiesel engine and has a claimed standard fuel consumption of 54.8 mpg. In Germany, the car will cost just under DM 20,000, or $10,931, when it goes on sale in December.
The City-Cabrio, due in March 2000, is equipped with MCC's standard 600cc gasoline engine. It features a soft top that folds down over the trunk area, while the side roof supports can be stored in a tailor-made compartment inside the trunk flap to increase the open-air feel.
MCC claims that 25 percent of all parts in the City-Cabrio have been changed. It has modified body panels and new headlights and taillamps. The doors and rear side panels have been strengthened. A solid roll bar between the B-pillars provides additional passenger protection.
Meanwhile, the Smart roadster should go into full production in spring 2001.
