Early this week, Toyota Motor Corp. will unveil the Platz sedan and its sibling, the FunCargo wagon. The Platz closely resembles the Echo, which will become Toyota's entry-level model in the U.S. market.
The Japan-market Platz is based on the same platform as the Vitz hatchback, which has been a sales success in Japan. The Vitz will be sold in Europe as the Yaris.
The Echo is due to go on sale in the United States later this year as a 2000 model.
