DETROIT - General Motors has added $250 to $1,000 to most of its consumer rebates to hasten a cleanup of 1999 models. GM also has added five new series or nameplates to the incentive list. All GM programs expire Sept. 30.
Rebates were raised $250 on the Chevrolet Metro, Pontiac Firebird V-6 and Chevrolet C/K and GMC Sierra Classic half-ton pickups.
GM added $500 to the rebates on the Buick Century; Chevrolet Lumina, Venture, S10/T10, Tracker, Astro and Express; GMC Sonoma, Safari and Savanna; Oldsmobile Silhouette and Cutlass; and Pontiac Montana and Bonneville.
The increase is $750 on the Chevrolet Malibu and Camaro V-6.
The rebate to buyers rose $1,000 on the Buick Park Avenue, Park Avenue Ultra and Riviera; Chevrolet Blazer four-door; GMC Jimmy four-door; and Oldsmobile Bravada.
Added to the rebate list are the Buick Regal, Chevy Camaro V-8, Oldsmobile Alero and Intrigue and three-quarter-ton and one-ton Chevrolet C/K and GMC Sierra Classic pickups. Those are the carryover 1998 pickups that are sold as 1999s. They are not the redesigned-for-1999 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC New Sierra.
