July car and truck production in North America was up 37 percent over July 1998. The GM strikes hobbled output last year. This year's total was 1.2 percent higher than in 1997.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. will end production of the 1999 Toyota Avalon on Friday, Aug. 13, in Georgetown, Ky. Production of the 2000 models will begin Aug. 19.
Ford Motor Co. will end production of several 1999 models on Friday, Aug. 13. They are the Ford Ranger (St. Paul, Minn.), Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator (Wayne, Mich.) and Ford Econoline (Lorain, Ohio). Production of the 2000 models begins Aug. 19.
